Tips for Dry, Frizzy Hair
By : Bing's Corner

Dry, frizzy hair is typically over-processed, coarse and in need of moisture. Frizzy hair must be smoothed and repaired. With a few hair care tips, you can be on your way to more good hair days than bad.

Difficulty: Easy
Add Moisture

Condition your hair each time you wash. Find a hair conditioner that says it's a moisturizer. For an inexpensive solution, find a generic brand moisturizer; it typically has the same ingredients as the expensive salon brands.

Give your hair a hot oil treatment. Hot oil treatments are loaded with vitamins and oils that can be removed from your hair during washing, exposing your hair to the elements and heat styling.

Things to Avoid

Wash your hair every two to four days. Although it seems unsanitary to only wash your hair every few days, it's actually beneficial. Each time you wash your hair, you remove essential oils that keep your hair healthy. Dry and frizzy hair doesn't become greasy in between washes because it lacks excess moisture.

Avoid heat styling your hair. Every time you use a curling iron, blow dryer or straightener, you damage your hair's cuticle. Protect your hair if you have to use a heat styling product. Buy shampoo and gels that protect your hair from the heat. Towel-dry your hair as much as possible and use the hair dryer on the lowest setting. Remember to keep the hair dryer away from your hair instead of positioning it against your head.

Skip chemical treatments on your hair. Adding color to your hair increases the dry and frizzy problem you're trying to combat. When hair is damaged, the elasticity decreases--causing dryness, breakage and an ultra-frizzy appearance.

Additional Tips

Get your hair cut regularly. By removing the bottom few inches, you relieve yourself of split ends and the unhealthy components of your hair. Your hairdresser can also use this time to evaluate the health of your hair.

Style your hair with alcohol-free products. Alcohol further dries hair strands. Although adding gel to frizzy or dry hair may seem like a solution, it's ultimately a catalyst for bad hair. Use anti-frizz products to control frizz. Read the label of your hair care products and avoid alcohol.

Pin up the top half of your hair before applying moisture or anti-frizz products. This is especially important for thicker hair. Spread the product throughout the bottom layer, unpin the hair and spread it through the top portion of your hair.

Ditch your hairbrush. Use a wide-tooth comb instead of a thousand bristles that can damage and frizz your hair further. If you're concerned about knots or tangles, apply and leave in moisturizing conditioner to increase the moisture and ease combing.
